All summer there have been rumours about the future of Nacho Monreal, which we have more or less dismissed.

The Spanish left-back is Arsenal’s first-choice but, unfortunately, he is now approaching the age of 30 and his contract (which Arsenal have an option to extend by another year) only runs until the end of the season.

According to France Football (per Sport Witnessthe Gunners are interested in a move for Portugal u21 left-back Raphaël Guerreiro, who cost around €15m. The defender, who currently plays for Lorient, is attracting interest from major Ligue 1 clubs PSG and AS Monaco, but they have both signed left-sided defenders during this window.

Layvin Kurzawa has signed for PSG from the principality club, while Monaco have secured the signing of Fabio Coentrao on a loan deal.

To fan the flames further, Arsenal have a good relationship with Lorient. The Gunners have loaned a number of players to them, including Francis Coquelin and Joel Campbell in recent years, and signed Laurent Koscielny from the French club back in 2010.

Arsenal don’t need a left-back right now, but the rumours about Monreal’s future would make some sense if Arsène Wenger was looking into getting a younger player for his position.
