After all that Karim Benzema nonsense has finally simmered down, we’re now being linked again with another Real Madrid forward, Denis Cheryshev.

We originally reported on our apparent interest earlier in August but, as rumours that we were signing Benzema hotted up, noise surrounding Cheryshev cooled down.

Now, it appears the rumour mill is back in business and we’ve supposedly turned our attention back to the 24-year-old.

The winger made 40 appearances while on loan at Villarreal last season and only scored seven goals – not exactly a great return.

The Russian is yet to play a competitive match for the Madrid first team, although he’s made a number of appearances for the B side.

With all due respect, I don’t see us signing anyone right now, let alone an unproven forward. The deal for Benzema has died a thousand deaths and the chances of us buying someone now, in my opinion, are slim to none.
