Thierry Henry has reiterated his view that Arsenal can’t win the Premier League with only Olivier Giroud as our main striker.

The Arsenal legend has spoken previously about his fellow Frenchman, making it clear that although he believes the 28-year-old can ‘do a job‘, he still thinks we need to sign a world class striker.

In fact, the former forward believes signing Karim Benzema would be perfect.

“Giroud alone as a striker there – you can’t win the league, you need another type of striker,” he explained. “I think Giroud is doing really well – he went on to score 14 goals in 18 games, that’s amazing.”

He continued, “But sometimes you need a different type of striker and I think that if they can get Benzema, suddenly they are a real title contender and also in the Champions League.”

Despite believing that we need to add to our first team, Henry does reckon we have a genuine shot this season.

“I always say it’s their year but there is a genuine buzz around the place right now,” he said. I think they can challenge this year for real if they stay injury-free.”

Unless you’ve been living under a rock, you’ll have noticed that we’ve been linked to the Real Madrid striker quite heavily during this transfer window, with reports claiming that we’re going to sign him by Friday, despite Arsene Wenger claiming the rumours are purely media speculation.

Giroud scored 19 goals for us last season and seemed lively when he came on towards the end of the Community Shield match against Chelsea. However, many believe we need an extra edge if we’re truly going to challenge for the title.
