In what probably won’t come as welcome news to most Arsenal fans, Andre Marriner has been appointed referee in our next Premier League match against Newcastle.

Ah yes. Andre Marriner. The referee who sent Kieran Gibbs off against Chelsea instead of Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain for a, quite frankly, plain as day handball to deny Eden Hazard a goal.

In the 22 matches that Marriner has refereed for us, we’ve won 15 and lost five (drawn two), which doesn’t seem too bad compared to Newcastle’s nine wins from 28. We’ve also received fewer yellow cards and only two reds. As well as had far more yellow and red cards given to opposing teams.

Although we’ve only been awarded two penalties, compared to three being given the other way, Newcastle have received none and also had the same amount go the other way.

Therefore, on the face of it, it appears that although Marriner is card-happy, he’s slightly less card-happy with us than the Tyneside team.

Let’s just hope he can actually tell our players apart this time…
