After beating Lyon 6-0 on Saturday in what was a comfortable win for the Gunners, Arsene Wenger spoke about the group performance as a whole, highlighting the fact we had six different goalscorers and addressing rumours linking us to new strikers.

The match was entertaining and past-paced, only heightened by the fact our team never seem to slow down. The whole squad had their tails in the air and everyone wanted to ball. Arsenal isn’t a team known for hiding but today it seemed the ball was magnetised to our feet.

To have six different goalscorers is huge, especially amongst criticism and suggestion that we should invest in a new striker.

Speaking post-match, Wenger spoke about the team performance, saying, “It was a good, dynamic, collective performance where we could see that many players scored goals. Overall it’s in the continuity of what we did at the end of last season, and we’ve taken that form into pre-season as well.”

He added, “There’s a good team dynamic and we’ve shown again that we can score goals, which is what everybody expects from us.”

On the subject of having six goalscorers, Wenger explained, “Football is subtle. It’s not mathematics. There’s a logic in the game that means that you create chances when all of your quality players play for each other. Every game is different.”

He continued, “I still say that after the game tonight we are open-minded but we are not in a desperate need, because we were missing Welbeck and Alexis who are big players. We did not have Wilshere who is a creative player as well. That means we have a good squad.”

During the transfer window, Arsenal has been linked to the usual plethora of world class strikers. However, the boss remains relaxed about the situation, content in the knowledge that we’re fine with who we’ve got but open-minded to making the correct additions if the right player comes along.

“It depends what you call a desperate need,” he said. “When you score six goals, I concede that you don’t have a desperate need. We won the FA Cup final scoring four goals. We score goals, and that’s what I mean by that. We can create chances and we can score goals. We are open-minded but everybody is on the market. Many clubs have big, big budgets.”
