Arsene Wenger has been speaking about Mesut Ozil’s improvement in his defensive work since coming to Arsenal, as well as the chances of us selling the playmaker in the near future.

Ozil had a rocky time during his first two seasons at Arsenal. He had injuries, harsh criticism flying at him from all directions due to his £42m price tag, and he found it hard hitting his stride. However, the manager and the fans kept their faith and he’s flourished. Even still, it doesn’t quite feel as if the playmaker is out of second gear.

Speaking recently, Wenger said, “Ozil understands the rhythms of English football and he has improved his defensive attitude. He works hard and offensively he is a top class player.”

On the recent speculation that Ozil could be off to Juventus (or, more oddly, Fenerbahce), either this season or next year, the boss was quick to pour cold water over any rumours, saying, “Ozil is our player, he will remain our player and he wants to remain our player.

“It is a big season for him because he had a difficult start last year and in the second part of the season he was very important. There are many offensive players who have an important season in front of them but I’m confident because I think they have the quality.”

There you have it. Ozil’s not going anywhere, any time soon. We can now rest easy.
