Arsene Wenger has hinted that the reasoning behind Yaya Sanogo going out on a season long loan to Ajax is down to Dennis Bergkamp and Marc Overmars’ involvement with the club.

Two of the best players Arsenal has ever had the pleasure of signing are assistant manager and direct of football at Ajax. Therefore, it appears the boss is putting the striker in their capable hands in order to develop him, get him game time and help him to hone his skills enough to challenge for the Arsenal first team next season.

Speaking about Sanogo’s loan move away, Wenger confirmed, “He will join Ajax certainly, but we have not finished the paperwork.”

He went on to mention the two former Arsenal legends, saying, “Dennis Bergkamp and Marc Overmars work there and we have a good relationship with them.”

Overmars managed to notch up 100 appearances for Arsenal during his three year period with us, while the Flying Dutchman played a staggering 385, scoring 102 goals – a statistic that still makes my mind boggle. He was not only present but instrumental during our Invincibles season. Hopefully his finesse will rub off on young Sanogo.
