Arsene Wenger expected Arsenal to win against Singapore Select XI and put in the performance we did.

Speaking after the match to Arsenal Player, the boss revealed that the team put in the performance he wanted and achieved the desired result. Despite the Singapore Select XI passing the ball around neatly in the first half, we were patient and won 4-0.

We also got to give our younger players a run out, which is always a positive and part of the reason we bring them on the pre-season tour.

He went on to hail Chuba Akpom’s performance. The youngster scored a hattrick for the team and showed hunger to prove he was good enough to break into the first team squad.

Akpom has now made 40 appearances for our under-21 squad and nine for our first team. The 19-year-old will probably be eyeing up a place at least on our first team bench during the new season, with Wenger confirming he will not be loaning the player out.
