UEFA have decided to honour all the European Women football players who have reached the 100 caps threshold in ceremonies to be organized during the UEFA Women’s Euro 2017 qualifiers that will start in September.

UEFA has been giving a similar award to the male players since 2011 and it is a welcome move towards women’s football recognition for them to do the same for women’s football. They noted that there are around 120 player across Europe that have reached that level including Arsenal’s own Alex Scott and Casey Stoney.  Karen Carney, Fara Williams, Gill Coultard, Rachel Yankey and Kelly Smith are also amongst those who have 100 caps or more for England.

The players will be honoured during Euro 2017 qualifying games and players will be presented with a commemorative cap and a medal. In the future, UEFA is proposing that the ceremony takes place at the match at which the player makes her 100th appearance.

The next England Euro games are Estonia away on the 21st September then Bosnia at home on the 29th November, so you would expect the England players to be honoured on that day.
