Per Mertesacker has spoken about new goalkeeper, Petr Cech, and what a huge signing he could potentially be for Arsenal.

The BFG was full of praise for the former Chelsea man. Not only is he a worldclass goalkeeper, he also speaks multiple languages and is a master communicator.

The defender is convinced the best is yet to come from the 33-year-old, citing regaining his confidence as one of the main reasons he signed for Arsenal after being benched by Chelsea.

“I thought that was a good signing for our team, He’s an experienced goalkeeper who proved that he is a really good ‘keeper and won a lot of titles with Chelsea,” Per said. “I think it’s a great signing for us and from day one, when I first met him, you had that feeling that he has a certain presence.”

He went on, saying, “He communicates quite well, speaks a lot of languages – even a bit of German – so he gets along with everyone and that’s good for us, so he can add that special [something] extra we are missing.”

Cech only featured 16 times for Chelsea last season – a far cry from the 46 times the season before. Dropped for the younger Thibaut Courtois, the keeper wanted to move on in order to regain first team football.

“I think he will save some difficult balls. That’s why he joined – he needs to regain his confidence by playing for us and I think that’s the most important thing for him.

“Overall he’s played a lot of games in the Premier League already. He will add a few games and we will see him at his best.”

The Czech international played his first match for Arsenal against Everton in the Barclays Asia Trophy in Singapore on Saturday. He pulled off an amazing save during the 3-1 win, already proving why he’s an amazing appointment and will be an asset to the team next season.
