Could David Ospina be staying at Arsenal after all?

After buying Petr Cech, it became pretty clear that one of our goalkeepers would be on his way out, at least on loan. However, with Wojciech Szczesny saying he didn’t want to leave Arsenal and many believing the 25-year-old could learn from the former Chelsea man, it was always believed that Ospina would be the one heading towards the exit.

Early interest from Fenerbahce also implied that the Colombian was looking for a way out to a team where he could be more useful.

However, with a loan deal for Szczesny to Roma now looking imminent, it seems Ospina, who cemented his place as first choice keeper after a couple of individual error from the Pole, is staying.

According to reports, the keeper returned after Copa America for crisis talks with Arsene Wenger over his future at the club and, like most players, wanted reassurance that he’d be getting regular football with the first team.

It seems that Ospina will become our benched goalie, with appearances coming during cup matches and some Champion’s League games.

I won’t even begin to go into our bizarre decision to loan Szczesny out, as that’s for another post,
