The summer transfer window mainly focusses on transfer made for the first-team, as everyone is looking directly at the near future.

It’s exciting stuff – watching clubs spend huge money on players you love or haven’t seen before, judging how much it improves them or whether it was a bargain or a waste of money.

One such move that won’t be judged by us – the ordinary football fan – anytime soon is the move of Elijah Dixon-Bonner.

The 16 year-old impressed for the Arsenal youth team last season and was offered a scholarship, but turned that down in order to sign for Liverpool instead.

Arsenal will be due some sort of compensation for the youngster as he makes the move to Merseyside after years with the Arsenal youth teams, but that will come as very little consolation. Under Andries Jonker, Arsenal are undergoing a huge revamp of the youth system and to lose a player that they wanted to keep, and to lose him to a rival, will come as quite a blow.

Liverpool also grabbed Raheem Sterling from London (he was at QPR) when he was 16 years old, and have helped him develop into one of the most impressive young talents in the world.
