Arsenal’s Emiliano Martínez will likely move out on loan this summer, with the club already well stocked in the goalkeeping position.

Wojciech Szczesny and David Ospina have both insisted that they wish to remain at the club and fight for their places despite the arrival of Chelsea goalkeeper Petr Čech.

Someone has to make way and, even then, two goalkeepers will still stand in Martínez’ way.

According to AS [hard copy] La Liga side Getafe are interested in signing the Arsenal goalkeeper permanently ahead of the new season. Currently Vicente Guiata – who was linked with Arsenal during his time at Valencia – is the first-choice goalkeeper, and Martínez would be able to give him some strong competition. Arsenal don’t seem particularly likely to accept a permanent deal for a player who is highly rated.

Last season saw the Argentina keep two clean sheets in four Premier League games for Arsenal, plus one in the Champions League against Borussia Dortmund.

“I think he’s been great for us,” said Rotherham boss Steve Evans after Martínez’ loan spell.

“We’re going to be watching Emi on Match of the Day in six to eight months and then for a number of years as Arsenal’s number one.”

“I know for a fact he has a couple of clubs in the top division in Spain wanting to take him on season-long loans.

“It wouldn’t surprise me then that if we’re not seeing him in the Premier League we’ll be seeing him against Barcelona and Real Madrid. That’s how well he’s regarded.”

It is clear that a lot is thought of Martínez, and it would be a surprise to see Arsenal let him go on a permanent deal.
