Friday’s press conference saw Arsène Wenger almost confirm that Wojciech Szczesny and Mathieu Flamini may not be available for the Emirates Cup.

This year the tournament will see Arsenal face Olympique Lyonnais on Saturday before taking on VfL Wolfsburg on Sunday but Wenger has confirmed that a number of players are not, or are unlikely to, feature across the weekend.

Midfielder Mathieu Flamini is reportedly close to an exit with a move to Galatasaray on the cards but the Arsenal manager has said he has a knock ahead of the tournament. Wojciech Szczesny, who is set to join AS Roma on loan “might not be available” revealed the Arsenal manager, meaning Emiliano Martinez should get a chance to impress.

The news doesn’t come as a surprise to anyone, with both players reportedly close to the exit door and not in the manager’s plans for the new season.

Meanwhile forward Danny Welbeck is still struggling with a new injury and is yet to return to training, he also won’t be involved. With plenty of rumours linking Wenger with a star striker signing Welbecks’ future could also be clouded in doubt.
