Arsenal have already signed Petr Čech but, with a month remaining until the Community Shield, it is unlikely that the club have completed their business this summer.

On the Telegraph website on Wednesday, Arsenal reporter Jeremy Wilson said that players have been watched for both defence and midfield.

“Wenger is reviewing his options in other positions before deciding on his other transfer priorities,” said Wilson.

“Central midfield and central defence are positions that have been extensively scouted but much will also depend upon departures.”

Departures are likely to include Mathieu Flamini, but fellow midfielder Mikel Arteta seems sure to remain at the club. Regardless, with his injury concerns and some lingering doubts over Francis Coquelin it is likely that Wenger will still seek another midfielder even if his captain remains.

At the back, any reinforcements would come as some sort of surprise. The Gunners have Per Mertesacker and Laurent Koscielny well established as first-choice centre-halves, so anyone coming in would have to play second fiddle.

The club already has worthy – and younger – back ups in Calum Chambers and Gabriel, signed in the last two windows from Southampton and Villarreal respectively.

With a number os options at centre-back already it would be a huge shock to see anyone depart, a midfielder still looks like the position that Wenger will seek to strengthen in this window.
