Arsenal have now confirmed that Petr Čech has been given the number 33 to wear next season.

Arsenal have announced via Instagram, and it may come as a surprise. Čech was widely expected to take a lower squad number but with David Ospina and Wojciech Szczesny remaining as of now at the club the traditional goalkeeping numbers of 1 and 13 have not become available.

One of those players may still leave but it is likely that the club wanted to make an announcement before the Barclays Asia Trophy kicks-off on Wednesday.

We can now reveal @petrcech’s squad number for #Arsenal…. Number 33 #PC33 #33

The last player to have the number was Benik Afobe, who was preceded by Nacer Barazite and Nicklas Bendtner.

Let’s hope Čech’s Arsenal career is just a bit more successful than theirs.
