Hector Bellerin is reportedly about to sign another long term deal with us after saying he has no plans to leave.

The right-back has described his pride at his 2014/15 season performance, particularly the second half where he broke into the first team after a couple of injuries to key players. Although his big break was the result of misfortune, he’s grateful and said he has no plans of leaving.

The 20-year-old simply wants to play more games and stay at Arsenal.

Amid rumours that the defender is about to sign a new, long term deal with the club, he said, “Last year was crazy for me. It was a beautiful year. I’ve played 30 games with the first team and I don’t consider myself one of the main players. But to be a regular in the first has been a great achievement. I am really happy and proud.”

He added, “Competition between players is always good. If you don’t have competition you relax and never improve. The fact we have three or four players who can play at right-back makes it better. It’s down to the boss.”

On leaving his boyhood club, Barcelona, for Arsenal, he said, “It was hard to leave family and friends and my country but I look back happy that I did it. For me it was a big step. I knew if I was doing well the boss would give me a chance. I took my chance to come and I’m happy things have gone well. Hopefully they will get better.”

The Spaniard is positive about his future with Arsenal, saying, “If I’d wanted to play there, I would have stayed there in the first place. The fact that I came to Arsenal means that I want to play here.

“The job has just started and I am not thinking of going anywhere else. I just want to cement my place in the first team, get more games and hopefully stay for a long.”

Bellerin’s run in the first team was due to an injury to Mathieu Debuchy and illness to Calum Chambers, who never regained his spot. Both right-backs are now back in full training, with Debuchy playing 72 minutes against Singapore Select XI in the Barlcays Asia Trophy on Wednesday.

Only time will tell whether Debuchy is strong enough to reclaim his place in the starting 11.
