Arsenal Ladies will make their second signing on deadline day of the transfer window with the 20 year old Dutch defender Dominique Janssen joining from SGS Essen in Germany.

The young defender was part of Netherlands squad at the recent Women’s World Cup and has seven caps at senior level, as well as representing her country at every youth level from u15 to u19. She played one game at the World Cup, coming on as a sub in the 13th minute in the 1-1 draw between Netherlands and Canada that sent the Oranje into the last 16.

Arsenal Ladies’ squad is really stretched defensively with just five defenders listed on the website: one right back Alex Scott, one left back Emma Mitchell and three centre backs in Jemma Rose, Casey Stoney and Vyan Sampson who is coming back from injury.

Midfielders Leah Williamson, Jade Bailey or Taome Oliver are the back-up solutions used by Pedro Losa when the team is short at the back, so it makes plenty of sense to get in another defensive player to add depth in the squad.

We also understand that Caroline Weir will seal a transfer deadline day move from the club to another FA WSL side.
