It’s that time of day again: we’ve been linked to yet another Serie A player.

This time, it’s a centre-back by the name of Alessio Romagnoli. He plays for Roma and, according to reports, we’re readying a £24.4m bid for the 20-year-old.

You heard.

£24.4m. For a 20-year-old.

The concept of signing the defender isn’t stupid when you look at it objectively. However the sheer price, combined with the fact that Arsene Wenger has claimed he won’t be signing any defenders during this transfer window, means this rumour doesn’t seem to be going anywhere.

The youngster only played 31 matches for Roma last season and is therefore relatively unproven in Serie A, let alone the Premier League where he has no experience at all.

If we were to go against what Wenger has said and sign a defender, I believe it’d be far more likely to be a full-back, given the possibility that Nacho Monreal could be off to Athletic Bilbao.
