Arsenal are reportedly interested in signing Greek central defender Kostas Manolas, who is currently plying his trade in the capital of Italy with Roma.

Last summer saw the Gunners extensively linked with Manolas, who joined Roma from Olympiakos for around £9M. The defender has since confirmed that he could have signed for either Arsenal or eventual Serie A winners Juventus, but is thought to have chose Roma as they could offer more regular football.

“It’s true, Juventus sought me out after the World Cup. I could also have ended up at Arsenal,” he told Il Tempo.

Now Arsène Wenger is being linked with another move for the defender, as he seeks to bolster his squad ahead of the new season. At just 24, Manolas has a lot of room to grow behind Per Mertesacker and Laurent Koscielny.

However, talkSPORT have reported that no contact has been made with the Greek’s representatives or his current club, which makes any Arsenal interest doubtful.

The last two windows have seen Arsenal add Calum Chambers and Gabriel to the squad for around £16M and £11.2M respectively. At 20 and 24, the two defenders will only improve and it seems highly unlikely that – as well as having Mertesacker and Koscielny – Arsenal will look to add another central defender to the squad this summer.
