A week from now marks the day that Mario Götze scored the winning goal in a World Cup Final.

“Show the world that you are better than Messi,” said manager Joachim Löw as he subbed on the Bayern Munich midfielder.

Well, he scored the decisive goal, but Messi enjoyed a much more successful following season.

Messi, in fact, stole the show with two goals and an assist to send Barcelona one, two, and three-nil up against Götze’s Bayern, while the German was sat on the bench.

The return leg saw Götze on the bench again, just as he had also been for the German giants’ DFB Pokal (German cup) semi-final loss to Borussia Dortmund.

All of this sub appearances were made worse by the fact that Arjen Robben and Franck Ribéry were both missing.

Does Pep Guardiola trust the once ‘wunderkind’?

Agent

Götze’s agent doesn’t think so, and his recent remarks to Bild have now sparked rumours that Arsène Wenger could move for the German.

“Of course I would have wished that Mario would get more backing in one or another situation,” Volker Struth told Bild am Sonntag.

“I am convinced that when Mario feels trusted it is easier to get more from his incredible potential. Then he is one of the best players in the world.”

Bayern have already signed Douglas Costa this summer, another competitor for Götze’s place in the team, and the German may just become available. He is due to return to Bayern training on 11th July, and maybe the wheels will be set in motion then.
