Arsenal Ladies have reportedly signed Spanish midfielder Marta Corredera from FC Barcelona.

The contract length is said to be for 18 months and she will join her fellow Spain team-mates Vicky Losada and Natalia Pablos Sanchon alongside manager Pedro Losa.

Corredera is 23 and was selected in the Spain World Cup squad.  She has 28 caps and two goals for Spain.

She played three games overall in the World Cup for a total of 163 minutes, grabbing one assist, one shot on target, and one foul. You can see her assist for Veronica Boquete against the Korea Republic here.

Coming on as a sub against Costa Rica on the 72nd minute, she started the game against Brazil and was subbed off in the 70th minute. She also started the game against the Korea Republic and was subbed in the 75th minute.

Arsenal Ladies midfield might be short in numbers when the season restarts on the 12th July with Jordan Nobbs unlikely to be fit after her well documented hamstring injury problems.

With question marks over Leah Williamson and Jade Bailey’s fitness as well adding a seasoned international player to the squad is a very good move, especially as the team need to hit the ground running with the current champions visiting Borehamwood to open the second half of the season.
