Arsenal have confirmed that young midfielder Jon Toral has joined Birmingham City on loan for the 2015/16 season.

The Spanish midfield joined from Barcelona along with Héctor Bellerín but has struggled with a series of knee injuries, delaying his development. Last season Toral impressed at Championship level during a short loan with Brentford, and will go back to the division for the new season.

Arsenal extended Toral’s contract by a year back in April, meaning he still has 12 months to run on his deal with the club.

He has regularly played for Arsenal u21s when fit but is yet to appear for the senior side. Last season’s loan spell at Brentford saw the 20 year-old midfielder play 37 games and scoring six goals, including a hat-trick against Blackpool which helped him catch the eye.

Though he was not originally included in the squad Toral travelled to Singapore for the Barclays Asia Trophy, featuring in the win over Singapore Select XI.

We wish Jon all the best at Birmingham and will be watching him as much as possible during the loan, bringing you updates and hoping he does enough to earn a new Arsenal contract.
