We have made it to the final games of Matchday 1.

Top seeded teams France and Brazil won their first game, while the the other games ended up 1-1- draws.

That is a point each for World Cup debutants Costa Rica and Spain. Marta ended up beating the FIFA WWC goalscorer with her 15th goal overall.

Arsenal Ladies Vicky Losada was the first club player to score at the World Cup in Spain’s  1-1 draw.

Group E

Spain 1 Costa Rica 1 V Losada; R Rodriguez

Brazil 2 Korea Republic 0 Formiga, Marta (pen)

Brazil take the lead in group E and are two points ahead of Spain, Costa Rica. Korea Republic are trailing those two teams by a point which only means there is all to play for for the runner-up place in the group.

Next round of games will see Brazil v Spain and Korea Republic v Costa Rica.

Group F

France 1 England 0 Le Sommer

Colombia 1 Mexico 1 Montoya; V Perez

France beat England by the smallest margin (match report), while Colombia and Mexico drawing is the best result possible for the England team as they only trail those two teams by a point. France will take on Colombia next while England will take on Mexico.
