After falling out of favour last season Wojciech Szczesny became Arsenal’s ‘cup goalkeeper’ and played well in the FA Cup Final against Aston Villa.

Szczesny kept a clean sheet that day but that won’t be enough to convince Arsène Wenger that the Pole is his best option heading into the new season.

Lost

The 25 year-old lost his place to David Ospina in January after a 2-0 loss to Southampton. Not only was Szczesny blamed for the goals Arsenal conceded but he was embroiled in controversy as he was caught smoking after the game.

Ospina is now reportedly close to a move to Turkish club Fenerbahce, which would leave Wenger with less of a headache when it comes to choosing between him and Szczesny as Cech’s understudy.

According to The Telegraph Szczesny is keen to stay at the Emirates Stadium to fight it out with Cech for the number one spot.

Eight years Cech’s senior, the report also says that Szczesny realises he would be afforded a great opportunity to learn from an experiences goalkeeper who has won everything in his time at Chelsea.

Szczesny would likely benefit from learning from Cech and still have a great opportunity to be Arsenal number one in the long-term.
