Wellington Silva is set to sign a new deal after being finally granted a work permit to play for the Gunners.

The winger has been incredibly patient when it comes to finally getting to play for Arsenal. He officially signed for us in 2011 but has since had five loan deals away, as he wasn’t allowed to play for us. Fortunately, he has since been granted Spanish Citizenship, allowing him to come over.

His current contract takes him up until 2018. However, him signing a new one is probably more to do with a pay increase or other clauses, considering it now actually looks like he’ll be getting some decent playing time for us, rather than keeping him tied down until he’s collecting a pension.

Last season, he featured heavily for Spanish team Almeria, appearing 35 times and making seven assists. It stands to reason that if put behind world class talent, the winger would excel. Hopefully it all works out and we’ll get to see what he’s really made of come pre-season.
