Arsenal forward Theo Walcott has said that he is comfortable in a number of positions in a recent interview with The Telegraph – he just wants to succeed.

Arsenal are looking good when Theo Walcott plays, he is scoring goals, and his contract hasn’t got a greta deal of time left on it.

Last time we were here the talk was all about Theo Walcott wanting to play as a striker.

He did, he scored a few, he signed a new deal, and Arsène Wenger put him on the wing again.

Ended

The season ended with Walcott up front. With Olivier Giroud struggling for form the Englishman was selected against West Brom, and made the most of it with a hat-trick within the opening 17 minutes.

A week later he was smashing the ball beyond Shay Given to give Arsenal the lead in an FA Cup Final.

So, is he a striker?

“I would prefer to play up front, but it doesn’t always work in different games,” says Walcott.

“I can do a job up front, but I can also play on the right or left.”

So will he be playing in those positions for Arsenal next season?

“My club future at the moment is absolutely fine.

“As you can see I’ve been playing and I want to play well for the club. Now I’m concentrating on England,” said the 26 year old forward.

“These things in the future will get sorted I’m sure. I’ll just leave my agent to deal with that side of things.”

We can assume that Walcott’s agent knows what he wants, and Theo is smart enough not to be manipulated.

Everyone now seems quietly confident that a deal will be struck between him and the club.

Content

With Olivier Giroud and Danny Welbeck also at Arsène Wenger’s disposal – not to mention Alexis Sánchez – Walcott will have to be content with working from anywhere across the frontline.

Sometimes playing him up front could work – his pace will stretch sides, he can switch positions with the wide men, and Arsenal could pull the opposition apart. We saw that at Wembley.

But he will have to be content with staying wide or being on the bench sometimes too.

If he is, it’s great news for Arsenal.
