AS in Spain are reporting that David Moyes’ Real Sociedad have offered €8.2m for Joel Campbell after meeting with the player last week.

Moyes has been an admirer of the Costa Rican forward for some time and tried to sign him in January before he was shipped off on loan to Villarreal as part of the deal that saw Gabriel come the other way.

Unlikely to get a place in the Arsenal first team squad for the new season, Campbell has already spoken about being willing to go back out on loan to bide his time for a chance with Arsenal but this move from Sociedad would see an end to Joel’s Arsenal dreams – should Arsenal accept, of course.

AS claim that Moyes met with Campbell in England last week after which an offer was made to Arsenal. Their source? The Daily Mail.

Having checked out the Mail piece, they offer little extra information and don’t even mention the meeting that is alleged to have taken place. That being said, Moyes wants a forward, he likes Campbell and I don’t think many believe Arsenal would refuse to sell the player they signed four years ago.

Although Campbell signed a new Arsenal deal before he left on loan for the gazillionth time, that would surely have been more about protecting their investment than his long-term future at the club.

Will €8.2m (approx. £6m) be enough to tempt Wenger? Possibly, but with a few years left on his new deal he might think he can get slightly more for the frontman and will be in no rush to accept Moyes’ bid.
