England and Chelsea captain John Terry has been speaking about his desire for goalkeeper Petr Cech to remain a Blue but conceded he could well be leaving.

The defender said, “There’s talk of Arsenal signing Petr Cech and, if they do get him, he will strengthen them for sure. He will save them 12 or 15 points a season.”

Terry has been at Chelsea since 1889 – sorry – 1998, only five years more than the Czech international and it’s probably fair to say that he knows the ‘keeper and his ability pretty well after playing in front of him for so long.

I’m not entirely sure where Terry got ‘12 to 15‘ points from but I definitely like the sound of that, considering we missed out on the title by 12 points last season. In addition, Cech was voted the best goalkeeper in the entire Premier League last season.

You can therefore probably understand his disappointment at being nudged aside by youngster Thibaut Courtois this season.

Terry continued, “Petr was an unbelievable professional last year. When you get left out of the team it can be hard to accept but, when he came in [to the side], he was exceptional. He deserves a lot of credit for that.”

He added finally, “We understand he wants to play first-team football but nobody wants to see him leave the club. He’s going to be sorely missed and will improve any side he goes to.”

This is all sounding a little too civilised and respectful to me.

All joking aside, it’s glad to see how respected Cech is by his – potentially former – teammates. Our team will do well with an authoritative figure at the back.
