Reports coming out of Italy are claiming that Gonzalo Higuain is ‘90%’ likely to become an Arsenal player this summer.

We’ve been here before, haven’t we? At least he isn’t on his way for a medical yet.

The reports on the site Tuttosport claim the information comes from ‘FIFA agent’ Jose Alberti.

Now, I’m not 100% on this (maybe 90%) but I’m pretty sure that FIFA agents aren’t even a thing.

Anyway, Alberti said “I’m 90% sure that will go to Arsenal, with a contract that is about 5 million per year. It was not possible – Alberti continues in an interview with Metro – for him to stay in Naples without Champions League.”

Given the site is Italian we can assume that’s €5m per year which would equate to around £70k per week which is not a salary that makes you think crazy thoughts and would be well within Arsenal’s wage structure. Is current salary is said to be €4.2m

Then you come to the transfer fee – an eye-watering €57m (although when you convert it, the price comes down to less than one Mesut Ozil at £41m).

Regardless of everything going on regarding this story, it’s worth remembering how badly wrong it all went before Higuain joined Napoli. This does seem like it’s set to be another rumour that will run for a large section of the summer.

We’re urging caution with this one.

Fool us once…
