He didn’t exactly get on well with us Arsenal fans, but Harry Redknapp thinks the biggest club in North London are close to challenging for the title next season.

As Tottenham manager, Redknapp led Spurs into the top four twice but still never managed to finish above Arsène Wenger’s men.

More recently Redknapp left his position at QPR during the 2014/15 season and has since taken to putting his views social media.

Writing on kicca, Redknapp has said that Arsenal are close to competing for the Premier League title.

“Petr Cech could be a great move for Arsenal if they can get him,” said Redknapp. Arsenal are yet to sign anyone this summer but a deal for Cech is reportedly close.

“He wants to stay in London and the Gunners need a top keeper.

“I’ve said they need 2-3 good buys and he’s one of them.”

Other buys

Strangely, Redknapp also thinks Arsenal need a striker.

Wenger currently has Olivier Giroud, Alexis Sánchez, Danny Welbeck and Theo Walcott at his disposal and it looks uncertain that any player who could improve on that firepower will be on the market.

“Added to him they need a striker and another central defender or top holding midfielder.

“If they can get Cech and some other good buys then I can see Arsenal challenging for the title next season.”

Another central defender also seems unlikely with Calum Chambers and Gabriel already struggling for minutes, but Arsenal are being linked with a whole host of midfielders and  once a deal for Cech is wrapped up that could be next the agenda of Wenger, Dick Law, Ivan Gazidis and whoever else Arsenal involve in the transfer process.
