During an otherwise quiet period in the transfer window there is one story fueling the fire, as Arsenal seem set to sign Chelsea goalkeeper Petr Cech.

With the two sides clashing in the season’s Community Shield on the 2nd August, it is possible that the Czech international could make his debut against the club he has played for and won everything at over the past 11 years, and The FA have today released details about the game.

Arsenal are the current holders of the Community Shield and qualify to play the game after winning the FA Cup back in May, returning to the venue of that 4-0 defeat of Aston Villa.

Our opponents, Chelsea, won the Premier League last season but it looks as though legendary goalkeeper Petr Cech will be trading Stamford Bridge for Emirates Stadium in the near future.

Wembley

The ‘traditional curtain raiser’ will be played at Wembley yet again, with kick-off at 3pm (BST).

Viewers in the UK will be able to watch the game live on BT Sport, the same as last year when the Gunners celebrated a 3-0 win over Manchester City.

Arsenal have been successful on their previous five visits to Wembley, lifting the FA Cup twice and the Community Shield once as well as (just) managing FA Cup semi-final victories over Wigan and Reading in 2014 and 2015 respectively.

Last season’s comfortable win against Manchester City is unlikely to be replicated against a Chelsea side managed by Jose Mourinho, but it will be interesting to see what kind of reception Cech gets if he does indeed complete his move to Emirates Stadium and plays for Arsenal that day.

Arsene Wenger will be hoping to start the season in the right manner, a win on 2nd August would give him his sixth success in the Community Shield (which is, if we’re honest,  nothing more than a glorified friendly) – and put him level with Sir Alex Ferguson with six Community Shield wins since Wenger arrived in England.
