Sunday evening saw a 0-0 draw between Colombia and Peru which, to be quite frank, is simply 90 minutes that I will never get back.

As I’m sure you’re aware by now the Copa América is currently going on in Chile, home of the wonderful Alexis Sánchez.

It is also, up to this point, home of one of the least memorable football competitions in quite some time.

Sunday’s game saw Arsenal goalkeeper David Ospina keep a second consecutive clean sheet for Colombia to to leave them with four points after their three group games.

Colombia then had to wait to see the result of Brazil-Venezuela to learn their fate, with a draw sending them out of the competition.

Through

In one of the more exciting stories of the tournament Venezuela more than held their own in group C, with the challenge of advancing in a group with Colombia, Peru and Brazil.

La Vinotinto defeated Colombia 1-0 with the only goal that Ospina has conceded in three games at the tournament so far but couldn’t do enough to qualify against Brazil, sending Colombia through with a lowly third place finish.

It really is a ‘skin of their teeth’ thing and the likes of James Rodriguez and Radamel Falcao will have to find some form if Colombia are to stand a chance of progressing any further.

Life

The tournament is yet to really come to life. It has actually sort of sleepwalked it’s way through the group stage and hopefully more exciting things are to come now that we have knockout football on the horizon.

The quarter-finals see Chile and Colombia in separate sides of the draw, so our Arsenal players can only now meet one another in the final.

Alexis should play for Chile against Uruguay on Wednesday night/Thursday morning, while David Ospina will face the likes of Sergio Aguero and Lionel Messi as Colombia now face Argentina on Friday night/Saturday morning.
