With heavy interest from Benfica over the signing of Joel Campbell, his dad has given his opinion on the move and it’s potential for his son.

You know things are getting serious when someone’s dad gets involved.

Campbell is another player who we had such high hopes for. We watched him play for Costa Rica during the World Cup and saw huge potential. However, it wasn’t meant to be and the winger went out on loan to Villarreal in January.

Since, it seems as if the 22-year-old has been eyeing up a move and you can’t really blame him. Our squad is now pretty strong, especially in midfield, and if he can’t see himself genuinely fighting for a first team place and isn’t prepared to sit on the bench, he should be looking elsewhere.

Speaking about Benfica’s interest, his father said, “It’s a good team that gives many opportunities for young people, which is always in the Champions League and that were champions.” (Thanks, Google Translate)

Although what he seems to be suggesting is more along the lines of another loan deal, as he said, “It is an important club, where you can play, grow and eventually return to a club like Arsenal, a strong league.”

It’s looking increasingly likely that the youngster will be moving away from Arsenal. If he decides to stay and fight for a place, good for him for persevering. If he doesn’t, good for him for chasing his dream of first team football.
