Jack Wilshere was a revelation for England against Slovenia on Sunday evening, scoring two beautiful goals to boot, and his Arsenal teammate was one of the first to show his support.

Wilshere has had a roller coaster of a season. Injuries kept him sidelined and then a strong Arsenal starting 11 had his backside firmly planted on the bench for the majority of each match.

His attitude and character have also been criticised after he was pictured smoking, and the accusation that he’s overrated has followed him around like a bad smell.

However, against Slovenia for his national side, the midfielder was on fire and even won Man of the Match – again. His teammate, Hector Bellerin, took to Twitter to congratulate the 23-year-old and poke fun at his critics, saying “@JackWilshere 6 MOTM’s [SIC] in last 7 England games, but people will still doubt him…” (he also inserted a snoozing emoticon).

Indeed, if Twitter is to be believed, Wilshere has now won Man of the Match for England in six of the last seven matches, with our very own Danny Welbeck winning the other. An amazing statistic, if true.

The goals

His first goal was an absolute belter with his left foot from just outside the area and his first for England.

His second was similar but from even further out and struck so sweetly, you’d think he was scoring these types of goals week in, week out.
