Arsenal Ladies have made their first dip into the transfer market by signing 17 year old goalkeeper Sian Rogers from Birmingham City Ladies

The youngster has been regularly called up for the England u17 side and is in the 18 player squad for the finals to be played in Iceland at the end of the month, alongside Lucy Parker, Georgia Allen, Rianna Dean, Chloe Kelly and Charlotte Devlin.

She was involved last Sunday in the FA WSL Development Cup final and kept a clean sheet in Birmingham City’s four nil demolition of Sunderland. She is a good prospect and at 17 years of age is certainly useful addition to the squad.

The big question is what does it mean for the other Arsenal goalkeepers?

There are two senior and experienced players in Emma Byrne and Siobhan Chamberlain fighting for the number one shirt. Then you have the two reserves goalies Hollie Augustus who has been given the squad number 23 and Chloe Morgan. And you also have the two u17 double winning goalies Shauna Allen and Emma Kelly.

That is potentially seven players around for two places depending on the u17 players being promoted to the development side. Someone must be on her way out surely, otherwise it will be very difficult to keep all the girls happy as we can see with the first team men’s and women’s situation.
