According to the Sunday Mirror  Jack Wilshere is set to be offered a new deal by Arsenal after rumours of Manchester City’s interest in the midfielder surfaced.

Wilshere still has three years remaining on his current Arsenal contract but the report says that the club is willing to offer him double his current wage to tie him down until 2020.

Headlines

Recently Wilshere has been hitting the headlines for good and bad reasons.

An ill-judged display of *gasp* understanding for the fans was charged by the FA after Wilshere celebrated the FA Cup win by chanting about Tottenham not being all that great.

Wilshere responded by digging England out of a hole with two goals in Slovenia to turn a European Championships qualifier on its head, only to be hit with a huge FA fine days later for that sing-song during the FA Cup parade.

Radar

The England international is on the radar of Manchester City who are in need of a rebuild.

Not only do they need to strengthen their midfield, but they desperately need ‘homegrown’ players to reach the quotas required to fill your squad in the Premier League and Champions League.

Yaya Touré is now 32 while Brazilian pair Fernando and Fernandinho are coming off the back of difficult seasons at Etihad Stadium.

Wilshere and Wenger have both reiterated a desire for the midfielder to stay at Arsenal and, considering the problems he has had with injuries, a new £100,000 a week contract would show a huge deal of faith in the player.

It seems pretty clear that Wilshere has no intention to leave Arsenal, and that Arsenal have no intention to sell Wilshere.

A new contract would be pretty big and possibly controversial, as Wilshere only started nine Premier League games in all of last season, but it would also send a very public message about the player’s future.
