Bob Wilson has hailed the imminent arrival of Petr Cech at Arsenal, claiming the Chelsea legend still has a number of years left at the top of the game.

Although the transfer has yet to be confirmed and doesn’t look like it will be completed for a few days at the earliest, it seems that it’s just a matter of time before the man that Jose Mourinho wanted to keep or, at the very least, stop from signing for Arsenal, rocks up at the Emirates.

Speaking to BBC Five Live the former Arsenal keeper and goalkeeping coach, who set the internet alight on Monday when he welcomed Cech to Arsenal, said

“I think it’s an amazing signing,” Bob said.

“You know, people will look at the two who are there – Wojciech Szczesny and David Ospina – and the point really is that if you can improve your team in any way you’d be fools not to do it.

“So, he’s 33 now, he still has five or six season of greatness in him and he’s going to give Arsenal that assurance at the back that they really need.

“When a side wins the league it starts with the man at the back and usually when a side wins the league the goalkeeper usually has an amazing season. I’m not saying he’s the best keeper in the world as of this moment, but for him it’s a marvellous move.

“I was goalkeeping coach at Arsenal for 28 years, I had Pat Jennings and David Seaman as two amazing goalkeepers I was able to coach, I would have loved to have got my hands on Petr Cech.

“It’s another step towards the title. Everyone Arsenal are very close to having a squad that almost matches Chelsea, almost matches Manchester City. I think everybody knows Arsenal are minimum 2, maybe 3, good signings to really challenge Chelsea.

“We didn’t know what we were getting when we were getting Alexis Sanchez, that he was this world class player, but we certainly know what we’re getting with Petr Cech and what he can bring to the side.”

Bob is a massive fan of Woj and it looks as if the Pole will get his chance to stay at the club and learn from one of the best in the game.

That works for us.
