Arsenal legend and former goalkeeper David Seaman is convinced that signing Petr Cech from Chelsea could be the difference between second and first place in the Premier League next season.

Seaman, who played 392 matches for Arsenal and 77 for England, said, “Chelsea’s loss could, and likely will, be Arsenal’s gain. In my opinion this signing could genuinely be the difference between who will come first and who will come second next season.”

Chelsea captain John Terry spoke earlier in June about the possibility of Cech leaving and what it would mean for both clubs. For Arsenal, he believes having the Czech international on our team will earn us an extra ‘12 to 15 points‘ a season. He also reckons that the Blues need to spend more money (yup) in order to compete for the league title again next year.

For many seasons, one of our main shortcomings has been our goalkeeper. No disrespect to Wojciech Szczesny, as I’m confident he will become a top goalkeeper with time, but our current keepers just haven’t hit the mark we need. Individual mistakes have directly cost us points and that’s not good enough at this level.

I’m sure our younger keepers will benefit hugely from having Cech at the club.
