Gedion Zelalam looks like he could be playing in the u20 World Cup in New Zealand after finally finalising his national allegiance.

The midfielder, who was eligible to play for the US, Germany and Ethiopia, has been cleared by FIFA to represent the States and has been included in their squad for the tournament which kicks-off down under on 30th May. Running until 20th June, his involvement could well hamper his inclusion in Arsenal’s pre-season trip to Asia.

He is also now eligible for the Gold Cup which takes place between 7th and 26th July as well as the u23 side which will be looking to qualify for the Olympics with qualifiers to take place in October.

The 18-year-old acquired US citizenship in December and although he was born in Germany to Ethiopian parents, his six years living in Maryland and his father’s US status meant that he was able to declare for the States.
