Gedion Zelalem has wasted no time in representing the US after his international clearance came through last week.

The youngster, who was eligible to play for the US, Germany and Ethiopia, opted for the former and pulled on the USMNT shirt for their u20’s in a game against Australia on Tuesday.

Zelalem was brought on in the 59th minute of the exhibition match which the Americans won 2-1.

Next up for the US u20’s is a closed-door game against Serbia before they head to New Zealand for the u20 World Cup and it would seem very likely that Zelalem will be travelling with them for the tournament given his involvement this week.

The u20 World Cup kicks-off on 30th May and runs until 20th June with the US set to face Myanmar in Whangarei on the first day. They then play the hosts in the North Harbour Stadium, Auckland on 2nd June before facing Ukraine on 5th June in the same venue.
