Arsenal head out to Singapore in July to take part in the Barclays Asia Trophy and Arsenal legend Ian Wright predicts it’ll be exciting for our large Asian following.

Speaking recently, the ex-Arsenal forward expressed not only his excitement about winning the potential trophy but tipped the Gunners to come away with the silverware, saying, “It’s a tournament that I am sure Arsenal will be looking to win. The way Arsenal played this season has been very good and very positive. We could finish second in the league, win the FA Cup [they face Aston Villa in the final on May 30] and hopefully sign a few players to coincide with coming out here to Singapore.”

Wright went on to described the importance of taking part in these tournaments, not just in terms of pre-season training but to connect and show appreciation to our large Asian following.

He said, “I’m really quite excited about the tournament and it is exciting for our Asian fans. We have some top players at the club and it will be great for our fans in Asia, where we have a good following.”

Everton, Stoke and a Singapore XI will also take part in the tournament, which takes places on July 15th and 18th in Lion City. This is the first time Lion City has hosted the tournament and first time Arsenal have competed for the Asia Trophy so the atmosphere should be buzzing and a great introduction to the new footballing season for the Premier League teams.
