Arsene Wenger has made multiple comments recently about the increased size of our squad and has now said that in order to strengthen it, we have to let some players go first.

Having a strong, fit squad isn’t a problem Arsenal has encountered for a long time. In fact, especially over the last decade or so, the Gunners have found it almost impossible to both hold onto their important players and also maintain a level of fitness throughout the season.

Players have been overplayed, fatigued and pushed to breaking point.

Now, we don’t seem to have that problem – instead, we’re presented with a new one. In order to strength our squad even further, we have to first get rid of other players to make room.

Wenger said recently, “That cohesion is a very important part of the success, but it’s difficult to achieve in the modern job because you are under pressure to get new players.”

He added, “We have 25 players and four on loan. We can’t have any more so some will have to go.”

Amongst the players leaving, the boss has suggested that he won’t be letting go of any of his English players, describing the importance of his English ‘core‘ and homegrown talent.

“Our future is only bright if I can keep a core who have been educated here and can play together year in year out.”

Indeed, keeping the team together and working for each other is another key to success. Therefore, I don’t see us shipping off any big players from our team, but we are likely to see Lukas Podolski, Tomas Rosicky and Joel Campbell leave at the very least.
