Ahead of Arsenal’s tie away against Hull City, the boss has been praising his existing squad, their improvement over the course of the season, and enforcing the idea that we don’t need to add.

In his presser, Arsene Wenger was enthusiastic about the future of the squad and where we’ve come from. “We have improved a lot this season,” he said. “Our defensive record since January is outstanding.”

As usual, the manager was keen to stress that he would assess the quality of the squad come May 30th.

“I think we will be judged at the end of the season [on] May 30 after the FA Cup final [and on] where are we in the Premier League. We’ll see how well we have done. That’s why it is vital to keep the focus and hunger to go as strong as we can until the end.”

On our title hopes for next season, Wenger seems incredibly optimistic.

“What will be interesting [next season is], let’s get a new start and see where we stand. We feel we have made up some ground, and that will be the challenge of next season from the start. Let’s show we are there and capable of fighting for [the title].”

Although he didn’t rule out signing new players entirely, he was careful to mention how large our squad already is and how we do have a few players out on loan.

“We are not in need of absolute change [this summer]. We have a strong squad and we have some strong young players behind.” He added, “We are not close to signing anybody, we have a very big squad, so we need to lose some players as well. We have a big squad now, we have Podolski away, Campbell, Sanogo will come back.”

It’s great to see the boss so fired up for next season.

He seems as if he’s really up for a fight for the title and has real believe in his team again. For so long he looked tired and as if being a football manager was the last thing he wanted to be doing.

It’s exciting to see him back at it again.
