With the season drawing to a close and third place looking as if it could be ours by midweek, Arsene Wenger spoke about our chances of truly challenging for the title next season.

In his post-match presser, Wenger touched on what it would take to actually win the league. He brought up how competitive the top teams are and how it’ll take a lot to beat them, considering all are predicted to be active in the transfer window.

“That’s difficult to say because you don’t know how strong the teams will be next year. Manchester United, Manchester City and Liverpool will all be on the market so it’s difficult to know,” he said.

Although his comments sound vague and even disheartening, they’re completely valid. Apart from Chelsea, the rest of the top four only have seven points between them. There are also only nine points between seventh and fourth. Therefore, it stands to reason that the top of the table is going to be incredibly tight again next season if all teams strengthen.

Although Wenger has ruled out strengthening our defense, there are other key areas which we are bound to add to in order to compete properly.
