After our 1-0 surprise defeat to Swansea City, Arsene Wenger was intent on pointing out how, although we lost, our performance itself wasn’t too bad.

Speaking in his post-match press conference, the Arsenal manager said, “They did well, I cannot fault any individual player offensively, just maybe in the finishing we were not calm enough and wanted to force it.”

He has a point.

Arsenal had 70% of the possession and nine shots on target (14 off target), compared to the Swan’s three (via the Guardian). For all intents and purposes, we dominated the game. We just weren’t clinical enough in the final third, which is becoming somewhat of a catchphrase for Arsenal fans now.

We were getting forward a lot but without any real end product. We didn’t really trouble the keeper, former Gunner Lukasz Fabianski, because every shot we did take was directly into his hands.

We got unlucky with their goal but considering the amount of chances we had on target, we really should’ve had a lead by that point.

Did we deserve to win? Probably.

However, as the saying goes, ‘you win some, you lose some‘ and Monday just wasn’t our night.
