Arsene Wenger has admitted that there is the possibility that Gedion Zelalem could leave the club on loan next season.

Landing his clearance to represent the US national side, Gedion could be set for a trip to New Zealand to take part in the u20 World Cup in June. Also eligible for the Gold Cup and the senior men’s qualifiers, he is set for a busy time since finally securing his nationality.

Speaking to Arsenal.com, the manager was asked about him and the recent developments.

“I leave the players the freedom to play for the country that their heart is. More and more people have been educated in two or three different countries and it’s quite interesting.

“He’s an interesting case because he has been educated until the age of nine in Germany and then from 10 to 15 in the United States. That’s maybe the age where you go out of the family and start to have friends. He felt that he wanted to play for the States.

“It’s possible [he could go on loan]. I always test the players in pre-season and then after that I make an assessment on how close they are to the first team.

“If he’s not close next year then yes, he needs to play somewhere.”

While undoubtedly talented, he still has some way to go before he can be considered for a regular slot in the senior squad.

As we’ve seen with so many players, the chance to be part of a senior first team on a regular basis can be invaluable for players and will certainly help him grow should the club decide the time is right.
