Arsene Wenger has admitted that although he had to sell players, it wasn’t easy.

During his pre-Swansea City press conference, the boss spoke about how keeping a club financially stable isn’t in any way easy. Not least because you find yourself having to sell your best players every season.

“It’s not easy to produce quality every year. We had to sell our best players for years but we have got over that hurdle,” he said.

Over the years we repeatedly lost our top players. Cesc Fabregas, Samir Nasri, Robin van Persie. All of them jumped ship; some to our rivals. This can’t have been harder on anyone than Wenger, who watched these players develop into world class footballers under his tuition, only to then watch them leave when the price was right.

Fortunately, now we’re moved into a new era where we can afford to not only keep our players, but buy new ones to strengthen our squad.

Wenger added, “We have a squad of top quality. If we can strengthen our squad then of course we will do it.”

This transfer window, it’s refreshing to see only rumours of us bringing players in and not losing our top talent.
