Well that didn’t go exactly as planned, did it?

In addition to our extensive pre-match coverage of the game, we got our writers together for a short prediction on how they thought the game would pan out.

Across the board, we were completely and utterly wrong.

Lee Hurley Win 3-0

I expected new Arsenal and we got old as Arsenal reverted to a blunt attack that was undone by their opponents only real attack.

A nice little wake-up call ahead of Old Trafford and the FA Cup final at least, silver linings and all that…

Helen Trantum Win 3-0

Well, that went well. Watching live, it looked as though we could have done better on the goal, but we can have no complaints when we don’t finish our own hatful of chances. The kind of game where the first goal makes all the difference to open the game up, but we failed to score it.

No margin for error at the weekend now.

Stephen Bradley Win 2-1

I nailed the first half, eh? Both teams looked completely disinterested in winning, it was quite surreal. The second half saw Arsenal raise their tempo significantly, but taking Coquelin off with 25 minutes to go was always a risk, and I have to wonder whether the fact that fourth is secure played a part in Wenger’s thinking to go for the win instead of making sure we at least kept a clean sheet.

Hopefully this was just one of those nights that everything we hit goes straight at the keeper and their good chance squirms over the line.

God knows we’ve had our fair share of them though.

Paul Williams Win 2-1

One of those nights. Must do better next time.

Sylvain Jamet Win 3-0

Disappointing and unexpected result. Could have done better on the final ball and shooting but difficult to do against a back 10. Prediction obviously wrong.

Lewis Ambrose Win 2-0

I hesitate to say it was bad because, well, we created all the chances. What more can you do?

You can convert a couple of them and do your job at the back.

My prediction was totally off in every way, Swansea looked to stifle rather than impose themselves and took their chance after everything from us had gone straight at Fabianski. Not good enough in either box really, but fine everywhere in between.

Nia Griffiths Win 2-0

Although we were due a loss at some point, it’s still a bitter pill to swallow considering how much I feel we’ve been robbed.

I predicted we’d win and comfortably, so obviously I was a little off.

I guess it’s just one of those nights where you have to suck it up, realise that we weren’t clinical enough and luck wasn’t on our side, and move on.

Mark Fine Win 1-0

Got the score right, but the wrong direction. Kinda thought this was going to be a scrap, and we already knew Fabianski was good enough. That many saves behind a bus… if not for goal line tech, this would have been a draw.

With all the chances and applied pressure, I’m not sure we could have done a lot better. Still proud of what we’ve accomplished this half of the season. On to OT next week.

Anita Sambol Win 2-0

The luck we had with deflections and all that against Reading was missing on Monday night. Too many shots went straight into Fabianski, while many were left untaken and turned into passes (Jack!). Silly goal, frustrating night, just more proof football is anything but boring and predictable.

Charlotte Marshall Win 3-1

Well losing isn’t fun is it? Clearly I must go back to my more pessimistic predictions.

Fair play to Swansea, they came with a gameplan and it worked. On another day we could have had a hatful, especially if we actually managed a shot that wasn’t straight at Fabianski.
