Theo Walcott made a dramatic impact when he was introduced as a second-half substitute.

Attempting to deliver a cross into the box, his ball was deflected by Tyler Blackett and flew past a stranded Victor Valdes to give Arsenal an equaliser and the chance to end United’s drive for third place and the automatic Champions League qualifying spot.

Speaking to the media immediately after the game, the winger said [watch the interview below the quotes]

“I’ve been very patient coming back from injury. It always takes time when you come back. I feel like I’m getting ready in training and I just need more match minutes. As a substitute you need to be positive and you need to be focused because you may get a chance and when you do you need to take it. It’s a great result for us today and I’m happy with the goal

“You’ve got to take every one [goal] you can. It’s an important goal and I’ll definitely claim that one.

“At times in patches we didn’t play great, but you can see in the last 20 minutes that we came on strong and showed how fit we are as a team. We’ve got a game in hand so that was a crucial point. [to secure third place] We just need one more point now because of the goal difference. It’s going to hurt them but it feels like a win for us today.

“It’s always tough. I feel like I’m part of the squad and it’s nice to be back amongst the guys. I’ve had a year out and sometimes it takes that long to get back in the team. The manager has been patient with me, I’ve been patient with myself. I feel like i’m getting stronger and quicker and there are a couple more games and hopefully the best is yet to come in the FA Cup final.

“You’ll have to ask the manager [if I’ll play in the final] that but hopefully I’ve given him something to think about.”
